Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of appointment should I choose online, physio or sports therapist?
Both qualifications have a high degree of skill in treating injuries, while a sports therapist appointment is more geared towards athletic populations and applying treatments with support recovery for non injured individuals, such as sports massage. You should also consider if you have insurance cover as some policies will only accept physiotherapists.
Do you accept all insurance providers?
No, although we are registered with the vast majority of insurance companies, we do not accept all. This is due to the varied nature of insurance providers payment and policy structures. Furthermore some physiotherapists are registered with certain providers, while others are not. If you wish to use insurance to cover your physiotherapy treatment you should contact our reception team to confirm your policy is accepted before booking online.
What's the best way to find your clinic?
All our clinics are pinned on Google Maps. This is especially useful when visiting our Liverpool Hope University Clinic for the first time, as the clinic is located within the Hope Park Sports Building.
Do you do Home Visit Physiotherapy?
Yes we are able to accommodate home visit physiotherapy depending on your condition and location. Some conditions are not appropriate for home visit treatment and so we reserve the right to assess each case on an individual basis. This is why you can not book Home Visit Physiotherapy online. Please email us or call us for bookings.
Where is your Hydrotherapy service?
Our Hydrotherapy service is based in Waterloo, North Liverpool. We provide groups and one to one sessions. All those wishing to be considered for a course of hydrotherapy must be assessed in clinic for safety screening and program planning purposes. The physiotherapist will help you decide which form and setting is correct for you.
Should I have one to one or group hydrotherapy?
Group hydrotherapy is appropriate for those who are independently able to exercise in water without the need for close supervision/assistance to maintain their own safety. Usually conditions such as post operative hip and knee replacements or people with bad backs attend group sessions. We also accommodate neurological patients who are independently mobile. For those who need hoist assistance to enter the pool or close support and supervision to maintain safety in the water group sessions are not suitable.
Do you have parking at your clinics?
Parking at our clinic varies. Some locations have free onsite or pay and display parking options such as Crosby Leisure Centre and Liverpool Hope University sites. Others have on street parking nearby such as City centre and Compass Physio on South Road. We advise you to check before you travel either on the site specific page information or via google maps to plan your visit.
What is your clinic cancellation policy?
Cancellation on the day of the appointment will result in the loss of your full deposit. Cancellation or re-arrangement 24 hours prior is fully refundable. We understand unexpected things can happen and we will make all reasonable efforts to be flexible with appointments to accommodate our patients.
However, please understand that many of our therapists are self employed and without a reasonable cancellation policy in place, our rate of no shows and last minute cancellations quickly gets out of hand. Please be courteous to our reception team if you fall foul of this policy. Consistency of application is vital to fairness.
Why do you take payment in advance?
The sad truth is that people regularly fail to attend appointments for physiotherapy that they have not paid for in advance. The reason we can offer appointments on the day or as soon as possible without extended wait times is because our team works hard to cut down on wasted appointments. This policy is consistent across the Merseyside Health group of practices and means we can focus on delivering great care and investing in our training and clinic facilities.
What can I expect from my 1st appointment?
A thorough assessment of your problem and its impact on your life. Your therapist will then devise a treatment plan with you in a collaborative manner. Everyone is different and when physio is done well it conforms to the needs of the individual. So if we need to spend the whole session discussing your pain and concerns thats what we will do.
What should I wear to my physio appointment?
Comfortable loose fitting clothes that you feel will allow your physio to assess you appropriately. Not every problem needs to be exposed to the skin to offer appropriate support and your physio will always ask your consent to examine you in more detail and explain why they may wish to do so. Lower limb issues such as knee and hip pain may be better examined in shorts and shoulder or neck issues may be better examined in a strap top.
Can I request a female or male therapist?
Yes cultural and sex based preferences are respected at our clinic. Our staff reserve the right to decline a request where there is deemed to be inappropriate intention or request a chaperone in specific instances.
Can I request a chaperone?
Yes. Please inform the practice in advance at time of booking so we can make arrangements. We may require you to attend a specific site where we have appropriate staffing to accommodate the request.
Do you offer discounted rates?
No. our services are priced to reflect the expertise and professionalism of our clinical and administration staff. We don’t offer seasonal deals or offers out of respect to our regular clients. Our prices are reviewed annually.
Do you treat more than one person in the clinic at a time?
No this is a practice known as room hopping, and it is banned in Merseyside Health group clinics. The practice is often unsafe and unhygienic. We believe our clients deserve our undivided attention during their appointments.
How many sessions of physiotherapy will I need?
Our physiotherapy team will assess your condition in detail and provide you with an assessment of your treatment needs at your initial appointment.
