Neuro Physiotherapy Built Around You
If you or someone you care for is living with a neurological condition, the right physiotherapy can make a real difference to movement, independence and confidence. At Merseyside Health, our neuro physiotherapy service supports people affected by conditions of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system, helping you work towards your physical goals at every stage of recovery.
Our team has a wide range of experience across both hospital and community based neurological rehabilitation. Whether you are in the early weeks after a stroke or managing a long term progressive condition, we build a programme around you and your goals rather than around the calendar.
What is Neuro Physiotherapy?
Neuro physiotherapy, also known as neurological physiotherapy, is a specialist area of physiotherapy focused on people affected by conditions of the nervous system. This includes the central nervous system, made up of the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system, made up of the nerves that extend from the spine to the limbs.
Damage or disease affecting the nervous system can change the way the brain and body communicate. This may affect movement, balance, coordination, muscle strength and everyday function. Neuro physiotherapy uses targeted exercise and functional rehabilitation to help retrain movement, manage symptoms and support independence.
While physiotherapy focuses on the delivery of exercise and functional rehabilitation programmes to support your physical goals, we also recognise the wider benefits of social and psychological support in managing neurological conditions. For this reason, we offer rehabilitation psychology support and home visit rehabilitation services alongside our physiotherapy.

How Neuro Physiotherapy Can Help
Every neurological condition is different, and so is every person living with one. After an initial assessment, your physiotherapist will work with you to set goals that matter to you, whether that is walking more confidently, improving balance, regaining strength or staying as active and independent as possible.
Depending on your needs, your rehabilitation may include:
- Exercise and movement programmes to improve strength, balance and coordination
- Functional rehabilitation focused on everyday activities and mobility
- Gait and walking retraining
- Supported gym based rehabilitation
- Falls prevention and balance work
- Advice and education for you and those who support you
Your rehabilitation potential
All too often, exercise rehabilitation is too short and focused only on the early phases of recovery. For some neurological conditions such as stroke, progress may be possible many months, or even years, after the event. For this reason, we do not assess your rehabilitation potential based on time alone.
We also recognise that for progressive conditions, the focus may be on maintaining your physical and mental health outcomes by supporting ongoing exercise and movement. Whatever stage you are at, we will be honest with you about what rehabilitation can realistically achieve and work with you to make the most of it.
