Hydrotherapy in Liverpool

Hydrotherapy Services in Liverpool

Merseyside Health deliver hydrotherapy services for patients with a wide variety of orthopaedic, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.

We are delighted to have a hydrotherapy partnership with Liverpool Swimming Academy. Based in the heart of Waterloo, Liverpool, their excellent facilities include a warm water heated pool, electric hoist access and accessible changing facilities.

Hydrotherapy is a form of aquatic physiotherapy which uses the warmth, resistance, buoyancy and hydrostatic pressure of the water to facilitate movement. A range of techniques and equipment can be used to support exercises that patients may find too painful or difficult to perform out of the pool. The hydrotherapy pool is also a great place to perform relaxation techniques for pain management, improve balance, build endurance and regain confidence after an injury.

There are many benefits to group hydrotherapy. Performing your rehabilitation within a supportive environment can aid motivation and improve mental health outcomes, which can often be negatively impacted by injury.

We maintain a safe therapist to participant ratio at all times and consider individual ability and needs. Each participant will be working towards their own goals in a program set and supported by a chartered physiotherapist qualified to deliver hydrotherapy. Therapists will be in the pool, alongside patients at all times to assist with exercise technique and answer questions.

One to one hydrotherapy services are also available. These are often suitable for those who have additional therapy needs and would not be safely independent in a group environment. Please note hydrotherapy in pool assistants or other therapists in addition to the principal hydrotherapist from Merseyside Health can also be arranged upon request. We understand the importance of this in supporting additional needs. Please discuss this at your assessment appointment.

Due to the nature of hydrotherapy, pre assessment and medical screening is mandatory. All group and one to one hydrotherapy patients must attend an initial assessment with a physiotherapist in clinic for hydrotherapy screening. During this appointment a full history and assessment of your condition will be completed and the aims of your program in the pool discussed. A medical screening questionnaire must also be completed in advance of starting hydrotherapy. If you have any concerns regarding medical fitness to participate, please discuss this with your GP prior to booking your assessment.

We are now taking bookings for Hydrotherapy. You can book your initial hydrotherapy clinic appointment via our online booking system.
